The Danish Government has released a study of adult novelties and toys and warned that many are made of chemicals which can cause harmful effects. And the US Food and Drug Administration agrees.
The Danish government warned that any novelties made with DEHP can cause harmful effects to the liver and kidneys of adults and may damage the nervous system of a fetus.
The FDA in the United States went further and stated that in pregnant women “DEHP measured from the blood of pregnant women have been significantly associated with the decreased penis width, shorter anogenital distance, and the incomplete descent of testes of their newborn sons.
DEHP is typically found in lubricants, creams, or products designed to prolong or deaden senses.
DEHP is also found in personal toys, but unless a consumer uses a toy for more than one hour per week, the chance of harmful side effects is believed minimal
Nearly all adult products with DEHP are made in China.
As a result of the findings, several large adult mail order companies have announced they will no longer sell products made with DEHP. For many years DEHP was primarily used in the manufacture of medical devices and industrial tubing.
About 10-years ago Chinese manufacturers began to use it to make adult products.
